When I was in Italy I had people warn me against using fans at night, for similarly involved and improbable reasons (most of them linked to the popular belief in “colpo d’aria”, a disorder supposedly caused by drafts that can manifest itself in any number of ways, including fever, influenza, colds, joint aches, and death).

I think I vaguely remember my Korean roommate asking me to turn the fan off at night, but I thought she was just cold…
